In this one day workshop the current state of the art in hemorrhagic shock therapies will be presented by a multi-disciplinary group of experts in the fields of transfusion medicine and trauma care. During the workshop the following topics will be presented; results of recently completed transfusion trials, epidemiology of hemorrhagic shock in adults and children, the use of cold stored platelets and whole blood for hemorrhagic shock, the effect of pathogen reduction on hemostatic efficacy of platelets, and novel blood products in development such as dried plasma, platelets, and synthetic red cells. This one day workshop will be a provocative meeting that intends to stimulate dialogue between experts in the fields of transfusion and trauma care, and to ultimately build collaborations that will improve outcomes for patients with hemorrhagic shock.
