In this session, a multidisciplinary panel will share their perspectives on the benefits and challenges of implementing a preoperative anemia protocol as part of a comprehensive patient blood management program. Panelists will review the crucial factors for successful implementation, including how to build a business case and generate institutional support, identification of key stakeholders, finding opportunities for standardization of practice, and tips for overcoming potential barriers along the way. Additionally, panelists will share the observed impact on patient outcomes at their respective institutions, including transfusion rate and length of stay.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a business case for implementing a preoperative anemia service as part of your Patient Blood Management Program.
