The session is jointly organised by AABB and the ISBT blood group terminology and immunogenetics working party. The ISBT working party recognises the challenges of blood group terminology and bioinformatics and is working on an improved way of reporting blood groups using bioinformatics. This session will explore diversity in blood groups and the naming of blood groups, what to do when you think you have discovered a new blood group and aligning phenotypes with Start Terms.
Decide how to report blood group antigens and alleles using an international system curated and maintained by ISBT.
Classify a blood group phenotype and convert into International Terminology.
Collect blood group genetic data and interpolate the predicted blood group phenotype using ISBT tables.
Interpret how to recommend for International registration of blood group systems or antigens.
Please note: William Lane, MD, PhD and Barbera Veldhuisen did not consent to be recorded; therefore, the on-demand presentation and handout have been modified accordingly.
