After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to:
Give example(s) of situations where decision to either defer or accept a donor is difficult to make.
Discuss donor eligibility issues in situations with no specific guidance (e.g. athletes and donors with certain medical conditions).
Describe best practices to ensure donor safety among such uncommon donors.
Program Description: Have you had difficulty with donor deferral in situations where there is no specific guidance? Blood donation among athletes, medication deferrals, donors who underwent the new stem cell treatment, and donors with medical conditions (e.g. cardiac disease). The list can go on-and-on. This eCast will go over donor eligibility criteria to ensure donor safety and cover such difficult situations. Participants will also be invited to list their most troublesome eligibility issues to be addressed during the program.

Group Viewers: if your group/facility registered for group viewing for this on-demand eCast, you do not need to complete the evaluation on the "CE Information" tab. Group Viewing participants will be granted CE (if applicable) after viewing the presentation, completion of the attendance log with all requested information and Group Viewing Coordinators submission of the attendance log to AABB within 72 hours of the completion/viewing date. Group Viewing Coordinators should submit the completed attendance log to eLearning@aabb.org. Participants on the attendance log will receive via email a program evaluation to complete within 5-7 business days after AABB’s receipt of the attendance log. Continuing education credit certificates will be emailed to the participants with a copy to the Group Viewing Coordinator no sooner than 31 days but not longer than 6 weeks from the completion/viewing date.
