Blood product inventory has been at historical lows during recent COVID-19 pandemic. This program will address how to handle inventory management in hospitals during shortages as well as engage hospital leaders and clinical stakeholders in management. Inventory management often falls to already overstretched blood bank staff, including the medical director. Our speakers will describe engaging key clinical stakeholders for patient blood management and also provide examples of transfusion triage teams with interdisciplinary members such as chief medical officer, clinical stakeholders (e.g. ICU attendings), and bioethics in addition to transfusion experts. Examples of algorithms for critical and severe shortages will also be shared.
