AM22-SN01-E - AM22-SN01-E: (On-Demand) More Challenging Antibody Investigations in the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (Enduring)

Oct 4, 2022 12:00pm ‐ Oct 4, 2022 1:00pm

Credits: None available.

Nearly all red cell antibody identification cases referred to Immunohematology Reference Laboratories (IRLs) are straight forward, being single, multiple, or autoantibodies. But in a small percentage, antibody identification is challenging, requiring the most experienced and educated minds, and the best resources for multiple serologic and molecular techniques. In these cases, resolution also means knowledge of most appropriate blood for transfusion. Complex immunohematology cases may involve unknown high prevalence antibodies, complex transfusion and transplant histories and the presence of RHD and RHCE antigen variants.
Building on last year’s popular program, this new group of challenging antibody cases in the IRL will enhance the skill set of even the advanced Immunohematologist. They will be presented by internationally recognized experts in this discipline, focusing on the chronology of testing, result analysis, deducing next test result desired, and integrating testing with interpretations as done in real life in the highest-level laboratories. This event will actively engage the participants to test their skills and knowledge and will result in skill development in resolving highly complex antibody identification cases.

Learning Objectives:
  • Illustrate the process for test selection to effectively solve complex immunohematology cases
  • Design detailed differentials for the choices of test approaches and resources. Cases will include antibodies to high prevalence antigens focusing on the investigations are completed from initial identification to transfusion recommendation.
  • Integrate multiple test results into a comprehensive antibody interpretation and transfusion plan
