This session will discuss the medical and ethical challenges, opportunities and novel tools in the care of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2022. A speaker from Jehovah’s Witness Hospital Liaison Committee will discuss the concerns and wishes of Jehovah’s Witnesses patients. They will also discuss some common pitfalls and mistakes in discussing blood transfusion refusal with patients especially among vulnerable groups such as pediatric and pregnant patients. They will also share some success stories across the county in blood conversation and alternative. Another speaker, a practicing pediatric hematology and board-certified transfusion medicine specialist, will discuss her experiences and lessons learned in taking care of Jehovah’s Witnesses in her clinical practices including the bloodless surgery clinic. She will also discuss new and established researches on blood alternatives. Lastly, both speakers will share some useful tools and resources that audiences can implement in their practices.
