Educating the public about transfusion medicine is crucial to their understanding of our field and to blood donor recruitment and retention. In recent decades, partnerships have been forged between the entertainment industry and the transfusion medicine community. The goal of this session is to explore these partnerships. First, Hollywood, Health, & Society is a program of the University of Southern California Annenberg Norman Lear Center that provides the entertainment industry with accurate and up-to-date information for storylines on health, safety and security. Second, the American Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet brings awareness to important initiatives and response efforts. Representatives from both of these groups will review the history and background of their group, highlight how their group has successfully partnered with the entertainment industry to further the interests of the transfusion medicine community, and discuss opportunities for future partnerships.
