AM23-SN-21-L: Massive Transfusion Protocols in Pediatric Patients (Live)
This session includes speakers from 2 different institutions with a comparison of low titer O whole blood (LTOWB) versus component therapy-based pediatric massive transfusion protocols (MTPs) and comparison of critical steps to operationalize MTP within hospitals. Speakers will note the pros and cons of special components such as LTOWB and psoralen-treated cryoprecipitate. Details of MTP at each institution will include methods for MTP activation, acquisition of emergency issue blood, contents of MTP packs based on patient weight and/or location, communication for additional components, laboratory testing in the setting of MTP, documentation of components, and communication between laboratory and clinical care teams. Finally, speakers will discuss MTP quality metrics and operational challenges for pediatric MTP in special settings such as neonatal intensive care units and mass casualty events.
