Validation is a critical part of installing and maintaining a Bloods Establishment Computer System. As external information systems and BECS exchange information, validation of the data transfer becomes more challenging. A risk assessment defines the extent to which the BECS and its associated systems must be validated. This session will define validation requirements, and provide examples of documentation of validation activities including a validation plan, risk assessment and post implementation assessment. Examples will include validating a new system and autoverification.

Learning Objectives

  • Define the requirements for validation of BECS and BECS accessories
  • List the elements of a validation plan
  • Document a validation risk assessment
  • Design a documentation system for validation activities
  • Define the purpose of the post-implementation assessment
