Nelson Hellwig has over 25 years of experience working for healthcare entities, testing laboratories, and nonprofit organizations. Since 2017, Mr. Hellwig has served as the CEO of the Alliance for Community Transfusion Services (ACTS), a strategic and operational alliance of 16 regional blood banks that collect, process, test and distribute more than 1.8 million units of blood to patients in more than 900 hospitals and provide various technical services, therapeutic treatments and stem cell laboratory operations in multiple locations throughout the U.S. Nelson also serves as the administrator of the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC), a joint effort of 35 community blood centers, founded in 2021 to meet immediate transfusion needs when faced with large scale emergency situations that require blood transfusions. Mr. Hellwig received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Southern Illinois University, and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of New Orleans. He also serves as the Board Chair of the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency, and is the father of a blood and organ recipient.
