I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) at the University of Washington (UW), the Medical Director of the Transfusion Service Laboratory (TSL) at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), and the Head of the Transfusion Medicine Division (TM) at UW in Seattle, WA. I was born and raised, obtained my medical degree and completed a residency in internal medicine in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I relocated to United States to work in medical sciences and to develop an academic career. I completed a residency in Clinical Pathology and a fellowship in Transfusion Medicine. My areas of interest and expertise include transfusion medicine practices, therapeutic use of blood components and cellular therapies, novel blood products, and transfusion safety. As the Division Head of Transfusion Medicine, I oversee hospital-based transfusion medicine operations at 3 campuses, and support a team of 3 managers, 2 quality specialists and 5 faculty. I mentor residents, fellows and junior faculty. At a national level, I currently serve on the AABB Nominating Committee, and I am also a Scientific Member of the Biovigilance Excellence for Safer Transfusion. I held leadership positions in several organizations, and I am the immediate past Chair of the AABB Clinical Transfusion Medicine Committee, and the immediate past Vice- Chair of the CAP Transfusion Apheresis Cell Therapy Committee.
