Dr. Stefan O. Ciurea is a UCI Health hematologist and director of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Ciurea earned his medical degree at Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmaceuticals in Iasi, Romania. He completed an internal medicine residency at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg in Harrisburg, Pa. He then completed a fellowship in hematology-oncology at University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Before joining the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center to lead its program in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy, Ciurea served for more than a decade on the faculty of the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Department of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. Ciurea is the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and more than 10 book chapters. He also has served as principal investigator on multiple clinical trials, including investigator-initiated trials. He has been invited to speak at more than 50 meetings and conferences around the world, including as keynote speaker.
